The goal of this seminar was to further the debate amongst policymakers and society on the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP), in the aftermath of the French Presidency of the Union and with specific proposals for progress in this field, in the near future, including the Spanish 2010 EU Presidency. For that purpose, the seminar presented a working paper, “A Future Agenda for the European Security and Defence Policy”, coauthored between a number of experts from Opex and other European think-tanks, notably the Institut de Rélations Internationales et Stratégiques (IRIS) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
The seminar, coordinated by Borja Lasheras (Opex, Fundación Alternativas) featured as speakers several Spanish defence officials, European parliamentarians, policy-makers, academics, etc., discussing European Defence and the abovementioned document. Mr. Luis Cuesta, Secretary General for Defence Policy of the Spanish Ministry of Defence, officially closed this event at the Representation of the European Commission in Spain.
