The Goals and Reserch agenda
The OBSERVATORY sets itself three types of goals: institutional, general and specific goals.
Institutional goal
- To galvanize around the Fundación Alternativas the best human capital of a critical spirit and intellectual independence capable of generating ideas and proposals in the fields of culture and communication.
General goals
- To contribute to the democratization of the fields of culture and communication in Spain.
- To promote the development of culture, its diversity, its sustainability and citizens’ access to its rewards.
Specific goals
- To open new channels for the scientific and professional study of Spanish and Ibero-American culture and communication.
- To generate innovative ideas and proposals on culture and communication capable of influencing the decision-taking processes of public and private leaders.
- To act as an alert to the transformations and trends taking place in the different cultural sectors and media.
- To create a network of researchers and research centres at a national and international level.
- To create an instrument of debate and participation which recognizes the plurality of agents involved in the creation, production and dissemination of artistic and media expressions.
- To coordinate the staging of national and international meetings which involve the presence of academic researchers, managers and/or creators of culture and/or media professionals.
Research agenda:
The OBSERVATORY has a research agenda focused on the following themes:
- Creativity and innovation in culture and the media industries.
- Effects of art, culture and communication on collective identities.
- Culture and development, cultural diversity and cultural cooperation.
- Changes in art, culture and communication in the digital age.
- International cooperation in culture and communication.
- Cultural projection of the Spanish-speaking world at an international level, towards the creation of a Ibero-American area of culture and communication.
- Economy and management of the culture industries.
- Regulation of the media and cultural policies in Spain, Ibero-America and the EU. Horizontal cooperation policies in these fields.
- New phenomena related with emerging cultures and its expansion in new technologies.
